Every Monday through Friday at the Carver Center, the Peoria YMCA provides a FREE youth program that supports young leaders and change makers. The program is designed to equip teens with the tools and resources they need to successful as an adult. Hours are from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday all year round. Carver Center is the host site for this Hult Center program which is designed to educate children in kindergarten through 7th grade on the importance of health and respecting their bodies. Participants learn how to make nutritious snacks, have lessons in health education, art projects and physical activities. Contact the Hult Center to sign up.
Parents and Students: Please join us on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, for an Informational meeting and Orientation at George Washington Carver Community Center to learn more about this important program for 7th and 8th grade students.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, parents volunteers, and industry working together to ensure America and Peoria, has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. We provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education that prepares our youth for today’s workforce. The program is hosted by Carver Center and Quest Academy. Sign up through the Carver Center.
Peoria GFL teaches children, teens, and adults the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through programs designed to prevent and/or manage behaviors that lead to obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Attendees will learn how to get healthy and stay healthy through proper eating and exercise. There are workshops focused on Alzheimer’s, diabetes and healthy eating for seniors. Mentoring is the cornerstone of 100 Black Men organization with the motto “What They See Is What They’ll Be®” serving as our belief statement. “Mentoring the 100 Way” is a holistic approach which addresses the social, emotional and cultural needs of children ages 8-18. Through group mentoring efforts, our members forge relationships that positively impact our greatest resource, our youth. Programs are available for boys and girls, every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. No advanced registration is required.
We are an open site for the free summer lunch program for school-age children. Free lunch is served between noon and 1 p.m.
